Lebanon crunches back!

I just read in a BBC report how Lebanon was fairing well under the dark blanket of the much dreaded and dastartadly credit crunch.

For once, the ball seems to have swung in our favour and by vitue of the fact that we've been nursing an ailing economy for the past years, has in fact worked out to our advantage.  The Lebanese in Lebanon have had to learn to live modestly (I am not referring to the minority few who live in debauchery - these by no means represent the true majority)

Recession is a blessing, it brings people together and teaches us discipline and reminds us of our humanity.  We are now seeing economies of extravagance and madness collapse at the blink of an eye.  These were unsupported mirages that served no genuine purpose but selfish financial lust.

Everyone was spending money they did not have and our debts grew far beyond our incomes and the real horrors of the credit crunch at a consumer level are yet to come.  Luckily for us the Lebanese, we have been going through this major evolution for the past few years and like good pupils, we come to class with a difference this tiem; we have all learnt our lesson!
