Tearfull farewell to singer Salwa el-Qatrib

We all remember her gracious silhouette under the spotlights of the theater scene. Some describe her as an angel, others as a queen of the Lebanese scene.

A brain hemorrhage took the life of 59 year old Lebanese singer and actress Salwa el-Qatrib this past Wednesday. She passed away at Hotel Dieu hospital after falling into a coma.

Her funeral was attended by various Lebanese politicians and artists and people from her hometown Amchit.

Salwa el-Katrib started her career as an actress in 1975 with the flourishing of Lebanese plays. Her name is affiliated to Romeo Lahoud’s musicals and plays where she took over the crowds with attaching roles like “My fair lady”, “Bint el-Jabal” and “Singof Singof”, “Yasmine”, “Oxygene” and “Les nuits libanaises”. She figured in nearly 20 plays aside from her musical career. She sang on National TV, at the Elysee theater in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">Beirut</st1:City>, at the <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Byblos</st1:place></st1:City> festival organized by the Casino du Liban. “She was the most accomplished of all actresses” says Romeo Lahoud. She also worked with Tony Hanna and Melhem Barakat, both famous figures in the Lebanese music industry.

Salwa el-Qatrib’s husband, Nahi Lahoud, is the brother of director and playwriter Romeo Lahoud, and her daughter is Aline Lahoud, is a well-known singer.
